Update 15/2/13: Competition has CLOSED for month one.
Hi guys! Well it's not so much a competition as it is a project in which you can win prizes... the idea came to me and I thought I'd share it with you all.
NB: There are copies of this blog post to take comments from here and here.
Your Mission (should you choose to accept it):
Is to go to the profile of a writer that you like on DeviantART and leave them a review. Not on a specific thing they've written but about them as a writer.
Over my years here on DA I have kind of collected these reviews, and when I self published my poetry collections I used them on the back of my book because some of them were just so sweet.
Perhaps the person you review will add your thoughts on them to their DA page, or to their writing website to help other people get an idea about who they are as a writer.
Reviews help readers establish the style of a writer, what kind of thing they write about, how they write, what's unique about them and the way they do things. They can be really useful ways to show off what you are proud of (without sounding to self-aggrandizing) so when writing about someone else try to be specific, and not generic with your compliments. Be passionate, be honest and make someone smile.
The idea is, do something nice for someone in the lit community, and get rewarded. Even if its just by a feature or a small amount of points.
FEBRUARY 14TH 2013 (The day of love, it makes sense!)
Wanna donate to the prize list? Just comment or send me a note. You can do this anonymously if you wish, or if you wish to donate points there is a widget on my profile page PoetryOD
EVERY person who enters will be included in a series of features until every participant has been featured. Every one who enters will also recieve 10 points guarenteed from thorns! (per enterant, not per entry!) Thanks Thorns! Whoop!
17 random entrants will receive 50 points (15 prizes from PoetryOD, Two extra prizes, donated by Chezzy-Am) . More prizes may be added in the future.
Those 17 entrants will receive a feature from elicoronel16 and vespera
From those 17 randomly chosen people one person will receive a chibi drawing from elicoronel16, and so will the person they left a comment for! vespera will also provide a critique.
* If you do 10 reviews then you'll be entered ten times, but you can only win once. (As in, once you are one of the 15 random winners your other entries will be withdrawn) but it does increase your chances of winning.
You will need to link your comment in a reply to this journal post. To get the URL of a comment you need to click where it says (for example) 1 minutes ago next to your name at the top of your comment. If you need help with this just note me <3
Entries will not be accepted before 1pm GMT on the 13th of January or after midnight on February 15th (the start of that day)
ANYONE is allowed to enter and is eligible to win the prizes (except PoetryOD) including DA admins, volunteers, staff and anyone who donates to the contest. It is open to all.
There is no age restriction on this competition
The review must be new. Therefore posted after 13th of January 2013
Important! The deadline is in GMT!
Only 'review' comments will be eligible for the points draw. That means a thoughtful and specific review of that artist, and / or their body of work, not just a compliment. See examples if you are unsure. (below). Mean or disparaging comments will not be eligible.
45 word minimum limit. 500 word maximum limit.
Select a writer you admire (this project is currently for literature only)
Post a review style comment on their profile page or journal
Copy the URL to your comment and paste it in a reply to THIS journal.
Watch this group for the announcement of the points winners and future competitions etc. (Not required to win)
Spread the word, after all someone may pick you to review! (Not required to win)
These come from my own personal archive of reviews that made me really happy about my work. They are just here to show the kind of detail that differentiates a review from a simple comment or compliment. May I just remind the people that wrote these gorgeous reviews for me how much they mean to me, even years later in some instances <3
"Kathryn's poetry is filled with dark beauty, breathtaking imagery, and a naked honesty that throws light on her perceptions and gives an intimate view of her life. The depth and tone of her expression make you feel as though you are falling into her world. Her words will haunt long after you have turned the page." - Rosary0fSighs
"Poetry is meant to be heard, not read, Kathryn's work sings. Her writing will start to tickle at your heart with deeply emotional words, spread through your soul with questions of morality, and finally find its way at the tip of your tongue with rhythmic words and musical phrases." - saturninesweetness
These lovely enterants submitted 143 reviews between them!

Welcome to NaPo 2020 + Tips n Tricks!
I know this is still a few days early, but I wanted to welcome everyone to NaPoWriMo 2020! You may (or may not) have noticed we're looking a little bit different :o That is because we have gained enough in donations to go Super Group Status. :la: :eager: :happybounce: Thank you to everyone who donated and shared the word around. I'm so thrilled that we finally have Super Group Status -- I really think this group deserves it. Once again, thanks for all of your support in this endeavor. Now, onto some business! The bulk of this journal will be my usual Tips and Tricks, as people tend to really enjoy those. I post it yearly because we do
NaPo 2020 Donation Request + Admin Team
Hey everyone! It's almost our favorite time of year. :happybounce: NaPoWriMo 2020 is upon us! We are a little over a WEEK away. So, it's time to bug ya'll again for...Donations. LOL Every year we are able to provide awesome prizes to those who brave the storm, and complete all 30 days/poems. :omg: However, we can't do that without the generous prize donations from the lit community members (and anyone else honestly) such as yourselves. So, if you are able to donate a prize, we would be incredibly grateful. Below are some prizes we have had donated to us in the past:
Points
Llamas
Features
Critiques or comments
Homemade/Unique crafted items
Pre-NaPo 2020! Super Group + Call to Arms!
GUYS.
Guys.
We're less than two months away from NaPoWriMo 2020. :omg: Can you even believe? It really only feels like yesterday that we wrapped up NaPo 2019, but yet here we are on the cusp of the next one. I wanted to get a head start on some things because we're in a new decade and I wanna do big things for this upcoming NaPo! There's quite a few things I'll be covering in this journal, so please make sure to read through!
So, the first order of business...Supergroup status. I would love for NaPoWriMo (https://www.deviantart.com/napowrimo) to be a Super group. :eager: This group has been up for 7 years, and I've been at the helm for a good 5 of those. I think this group
Role-Play Partner
Heya! I'm Mae, as you could tell by the name, I've been looking for an Role-Play partner for so long now, and I've pretty much looked everywhere, so I've decided to just begin a forum and stuff for it to try and find one! What I'm obsessing over right now is Naruto (I write lots of FanFictions, and I find it's a lot more fun when you're writing with a partner. so....), and The Walking Dead. So, if you're good at writing, and have competent grammar, I'd love to have you as a partner!
Hope to hear from you all.
-Mae.
